Was I born to Rock this much or did I learn to Rock this much?

I still don’t have a good answer.  I am sure a lot of feel the same way.

An old friend of mine once told me “Man, I just know I was born to be a teacher.” 

It is a very important question.  Are we born destined to be something or do we become something.

In the story that Brom told, in the chapter we finished yesterday, Eragon has a feeling that he was speaking to him? Is this true? Or is it a large coincidence.  Use your book to figure this question out if you need to.  Please explain your and make sure you have checked your spelling.   

What role do you think Eragon may have in this story that Brom told?  Do you feel as if you are a part of a larger mission?

Eragon, The Varden, and you thoughts

Each of us have our own strengths and weaknesses.  I, for example, am a pretty good public speaker (that is a strength) but I find myself avoiding speeches because I  feel like I am very good at organizing my thoughts (weakness).  I am sure you all have an idea what you are most strong and confident about and where you need to improve your skills or build confidence.  Recognizing and improving on this kind of stuff is just part of life and getting better at things we do. 

Sometimes we can understand our own strengths and weaknesses better when we think about how others act in different situations. 

Take a few moments to think about why Eragon is so comfortable exploring the Spine (a strength for him) when everyone else in his village was afraid of the place (a weakness for everyone else)? What does the Spine represent to the other inhabitants of Carvahall? 

While reading yesterday we were introduced to a group of rebels called “The Varden”.  They are fighting against King Galbatorix for freedom.  Can rebel groups like The Varden be found today?  Where?  What are they doing that would make you think they are similar to The Varden?  Take a look at some news sites like The BBC – Google News – Al Jazeera

What is that smell?

The fist line of the story is “Wind howled through the night, carrying a scent that would change the world.”  What does this sentence tell you about the meaning of destiny in the story.

Do you even believe in destiny?  Please explain.

Take a look around this blog.  We will be spending some “official” time on this blog in class each week and I hope you visit it on your own time to ask questions of, or share your ideas with, me and other students.

 As we read the book Eragon, we will be going on an adventurous journey.  This is a map of the empire of Alagaesia.  Click on the different names on the map to learn more about where we will be visiting with Eragon.  While you are doing this please andswer the following questions:

1) What mountain range is considered to be one of the most dangerous places in all of Alagaesia.

2) IN YOUR OWN WORDS please describe the town of Carvahal.
